Book Title:  Journey To A New Earth: Penelope Panda and Kobi Koala Discover A New Earth by Zeiny Sher
Category:  Children’s Fiction (Ages 3-7),  30 pages
Genre:  Children’s Picture Book
Publisher:  Zeiny Sher
Release date:   Oct 30 2020
Content Rating:  G. This children’s book is for everyone.

Book Description:

Penelope Panda and Kobi Koala Discover a New Earth is an exploration in preservation through connection. Penelope and Kobi are connected through life changing events, which helps them learn how to love and preserve the earth, and how to deeply connect with each other and others along the way.

Thoughts
A koala named Kobi and a Panda named Penelope met after Kobi escaped a fire and couldn’t find any of his friends. Penelope tells Kobi she will help him find them. As they start walking to find Kobi’s friends they meet a tree who gives them some very helpful thoughts. He shows them that this new world is much better and more beautiful than the world they left.

As the continued their walk they finally came across their friends. And they knew their world was forever changed.

The illustrations were done by Zuzana Svobodova. They were beautiful. Kobi and Penelope were fluffy and had big soulful eyes, and all the other animals, trees, etc. were as cute as they could be.

I loved the positive message in this book, “we are all connected to each other despite how far apart we may be”.

This book is geared toward ages 3-7 but I think it would be good for younger and older children. I loved it and I’m way past that age. If you have a child who loves animals, this book would be perfect for them.

Book Title:  I Can Handle It! (Mindful Mantras) by Laurie Wright

Even if they aren’t saying the words out loud, this mantra will become a part of their self-talk. Over 300 5-star reviews say so! Positive self-talk is vital for improving and maintaining strong mental health which is exactly what the world needs right now. Help your child feel emotionally strong along with Sebastien, and provide a tool to help them get through these challenging times. And because parents have such a difficult and important job, this book includes updated free resources.

Thoughts
If you or someone you know has a child who has a hard time handling situations that makes them mad, sad, cranky, upset, etc., you need to get them a copy of this book.

It will show them how they can handle any situation that makes them uncomfortable. The examples in the book are all good ways to feel better. A few examples are when your sister (or brother) won’t stop bugging you, you can ask her to stop or make a joke out of it and laugh. Or, when you’re miserable because you have to go to bed, you can lie in bed and think of all the things you’ll be doing tomorrow.

The illustrations are by Ana Santos and I loved them. They are colorful and very cute. I especially loved the Hedgehog and the children’s faces! So adorable!

This is a short book but will help children learn how to handle situations that make them feel not so good.

Book Title:  Mia and Nattie – One Great Team by Marlene M. Bell
Category:  Children’s Fiction (Ages 3-7),  32 pages
Genre:  Children’s Picture Book
Publisher:  Ewephoric Publishing
Release date:   October 3, 2020
Content Rating:  G for everyone. Family based book for all ages.

Book Description:
Nattie’s mouth was a little crooked. Her legs were a bit shorter
than usual, and one horn was too straight, like a unicorn’s horn. But
Mia thought Nattie was perfect. In a read-aloud picture book for
children who love animals, award-winning writer and sheep breeder
Marlene M. Bell presents Nattie the lamb’s true story. MIA AND NATTIE is
a heartwarming book that teaches readers about problem-solving,
teamwork, and love. On a visit to her grandma’s farm, eight-year-old Mia
discovers a newborn, orphaned lamb outside in the cold and takes her to
the laundry room, naming her Nattie. As she tries to nurse the lamb
back to health, Mia discovers that Nattie is different from the other
lambs and struggles to fit in with them like Mia does with other kids
her age. When her grandmother says she will sell Nattie to a neighbor,
Mia must come up with a plan to keep her friend around—one that will
show the family just how special Nattie truly is.

Thoughts
Mia And Nattie is such a sweet book. When a little lamb is born early, her mom doesn’t have any milk to feed her. So Mia decides to bottle feed her and names her Nattie. She is hoping she can keep the little lamb alive and help her grow. Nattie is really small like Mia, plus her legs are shorter than they should be, one horn is straight, and her mouth a bit crooked.

At first Mia isn’t sure if she will succeed in helping Nattie, but soon enough the lamb starts growing, and as time passes they develop a special bond. But then Mia’s grandmother wants to sell Nattie to a neighbor. Mia pleads with her to let her stay with them, and when she shows her grandmother just how helpful Nattie is with the other sheep, her grandmother says she can stay with them.

The message in the book is that no matter your size, if you put your mind to something and do your best, anything is possible.

The book is illustrated by Grace Sanford and she did an awesome job!

This is a perfect book for children.

Book Title:  MC Plays Hide and Seek: An Empowering Story for Healthy Children Who Care About a Person Living with Cancer by Eva Grayzel
Category:  Children’s Fiction (Ages 3-7),  64 pages
Genre:  Children’s Picture Book
Publisher:  Mascot Books
Release date:   Jan 5, 2021
Content Rating:  G for everyone.

Book Description:
M.C.
is a cancer cell who shares just enough information about the nature of
the disease to promote dialogue and minimize fear. The scary part of
cancer is the unknown. Learn about doctors who look for cancer.
Understand feelings children experience and learn ways to cope. Empower
children with knowledge and how to make a difference. M.C. Plays Hide
& Seek strengthens communication and builds emotional health.

Thoughts
Cancer is a very scary thing for adults, but even more scary for kids. Most kids only know that cancer is something people can die from but they don’t really understand what it is or how it can be treated. This book helps them know more about what’s going on.

This would be a perfect book for any child who is personally dealing with cancer or knows someone who is. It talks about different kinds of cancer and the types of doctors that specialize in them, what the doctors may do to find out more about the cancer and then figure out the treatment. It will give them hope.

The author lets the reader know that cancer doesn’t spread like a cold or the flu, so they don’t have to be afraid of the person,  and that many people beat cancer. The illustrations are  great and the photos are a nice addition.

I know how scared I as an adult when I found out my mom was diagnosed with cancer, so I can’t imagine going through that as a child. Every child who has cancer or has a close relative or friend who has cancer should have this book.

Book Title:  Dear Brave Friend by Leigh Ann Gerk
Category:  Middle-Grade Non-Fiction (8 to 12) ,  49 pages
Genre: Self-Help
Publisher:  Golden Harvest Publishers
Release date:   August 2019
Content Rating:  This non-fiction, self-help book is rated G. Appropriate for all audiences.

Book Description:
This gentle and heartwarming story captures the love between a boy
and his dog, and the sadness that follows after his cherished dog
passes away. Written in the form of a letter from the dog to the boy,
the letter shares relatable, real life examples of how the boy (and
therefore anybody who has lost a dear pet) may be feeling and
suggestions on what he can do to help himself get through this most
difficult time. The letter also touches on simple acts of kindness that
can follow the reader throughout his or her lifetime. The message in
this story is applicable to young and old, girl or boy, and to any
family pet that has stolen your heart. Story starters, drawing pages,
and a place to add pictures of your own beloved pet are also included in
the back of the book.

Thoughts
This is a perfect book for anyone, not just children, who have ever lost a pet (or loved one). I’ve lost more than one and this book brought tears to my eyes.

The book says that pets who have gone to the Rainbow Bridge are still with us in our hearts, and we are still in their hearts. They still love and miss us just like we do them. It lets us know that they are ok and are with all the other animals that have journeyed on.

This is a very touching book and although it is written for children, I think adults who have lost a pet will love this book also.

At the back of the book is a section with prompts like “I miss the times when” and “My favorite memory of you is” to fill your thoughts and feelings, as well as a place to put photos where you can answering this sentence: “This picture is special because…”

The illustrator is Trish Murtha and she did a great job!

Book Title:  Dragons Don’t Dance Ballet by Jennifer Carson
Category:  Children’s Fiction (Ages 3-7),  36 pages
Genre:  Children’s Picture Book
Publisher:  Vinal Publishing
Release date:   December 8, 2020
Content Rating:  G for everyone

Book Description:
Esmeralda Dragon works the spotlight at the Metropolitan Ballet,
but what she really wants to do is dance. Encouraged by her friend
Harold to audition, Esmeralda takes a leap of faith only to discover
that she doesn’t quite fit in with the other ballerinas. But Esmerelda
isn’t ready to give up–and neither is Harold! Dragons Don’t Dance Ballet
is a whimsical picture book that challenges body image expectations and
encourages little ones to go for their dreams.

Thoughts
This is a cute book that has a very important message.

Esmeralda Dragon works at the Metropolitan Ballet, working the spotlight. What she really wants to do though is to be a ballerina.

Every night after the show she practices her dancing and she keeps getting better and better. Harold the janitor suggests she audition for the ballet. Esmeralda thinks about this but isn’t sure. She wonders if she’s good enough and if it would be possible for a bigger dragon to be allowed to dance in the Ballet.

The book addresses body image and taking a chance when you are afraid you might not succeed. It is also about supporting your friends.

This would be a great book for preschoolers and kindergartner’s. It will hopefully give them the courage to do what they are excited about or have a passion for even if they are afraid.

The illustrations are vibrant and I love the color choices. I think both adults and children will love this book.

Bad Boy Bradley by Nirit Littaney (Illustrated by SugerSnail)

Publication Date: July 8, 2015

All kids have known someone like Bradley. He’s a mischievous 5-year-old who marches to beat of his own drum and likes to pull pranks. His classmates know him as the boy who always interferes or says something rude, but Bradley may just surprise everyone by the time his story is through.
This charming bedtime story for kids is packed with real-life situations. Through each of Bradley’s actions, and a surprising twist, kids will learn a valuable lesson. Colorful illustrations make the tale of a bad boy Bradley even better for early readers in search of a children’s book that they can read themselves.

Thoughts
I loved this book. Kids have just recently gone back to school and for many kids it will be a hard transition, going from home to a classroom with a lot of other students. For those kids who are a bit “not so nice”, it can be very lonely since making friends for them will be hard. This book shows that if you are nice, nice things happen.

When Bradley’s teacher has a contest to see who can earn the most stars for doing good deeds, he goes from a mean little boy who no one likes to a helpful and nice kid who everyone likes. He wins the contest and picks his prize and everyone is happy for him. He realizes that being nice and having people like you is way better than being a bully who nobody likes.

Illustrator SugerSnail did a great job with the pictures, they are colorful and the way she draws the faces of the children is really cute.

A great book for any child starting school or who is not so nice to his classmates.

Watch out! If you swim by too closely, Dave, the young sawfish, may just whack you with his nose! No one can deny he has a huge honker, but the thing that stands out about him most isn’t his appearance at all. Swim with Dave through an underwater journey as he encounters a scary situation and proves once and for all that looks aren’t everything.
This bedtime story for kids is the perfect way to send children off to sleep with a valuable lesson to dream about. Vivid illustrations of sea creatures and aquatic animals will captivate little readers and parents alike. Dave is sure to become one of your child’s favorite characters from a children’s book.

Thoughts
This is such a cute book that I think all little ones would enjoy. It teaches that even though we may not look like everyone else, we still are important and matter. It also teaches young children not to make fun of or be mean to other children, or anyone, for being different.

I loved this book! It has such positive messages and the illustrations are adorable. I would recommend this book to anyone who is different or knows anyone who is different. It would be a great gift for any child getting ready to start school.

Illustrator Emily Zierother did an awesome job!

No Poverty Between the Sheets by Pauline Kiely

Category: Adult non-fiction, 258 pages
Genre: Memoir
Publisher: A Passionate Pen
Published: March 2012
Available in: Print and e-book (mobi for Kindle), PDF
Content Rating: PG-13 Mature

This book documents the strong ties that bind generations together. When the author poses the question to her Irish Granny, “If you were so poor why did you have ten children?” Says she, “To be certain, there was no poverty between the sheets!” This sassy saga of a large family that is half Irish and half French Canadian captures hilarious voices and comical antics of a vibrant family that is cloaked in love. A horse theme and song lyrics are neatly knitted throughout the layers of generations.

Thoughts
It took me a while to get interested in this book. It might have been because I’d heard such good thoughts about it and heard that it was hilarious, and maybe I just built it up in my mind too much. It could have just been the mood I was in.

But then the book got funny. Some of it was LOL funny and some of it was just snicker funny. It was also just a bit too corny at times.

What I liked about the book was that the family was super close and really loved and enjoyed each other’s company. I liked reading how they interacted and all the crazy things they did, and I liked learning a bit about where the lived. And I liked the photos. They add to the story and make you feel part of it.

All in all I liked the book, but I know many other people who loved it. Read it and see what you think.

Pages: 26
Genre: Children
Format: Kindle

Meet Candy, the cute girl who loves chocolate so much she dreams about it at night. Grab some sweets and follow Candy though a Magical Chocolate Kingdom that fills her belly and teaches her an important lesson about limits, after something very unexpected happens in the delicious empire.

Though the vivid illustrations are sure to make your mouth water, Candy’s new understanding is the real treat even you can munch on!

Excellent for beginner’s readers and children ages 3-6. Book 1 in the Kingdom Fantasy series.

Thoughts
Candy is an adorable little girl who loves chocolate as much as I do. But unlike me, she gets to live in a chocolate house, and everything inside including the water, is chocolate! How neat would that be? Well, it’s great for a little bit, but as Candy finds out, it’s not so great to overdo anything. Even chocolate. She soon ends up with a belly ache.

I think all children will love this book, it’s a fun story with a great message of too much of anything is bad for you.
