Outside…
We’ve been having several thunderstorms daily with a lower humidity so it’s been a bit cooler and bearable. The high is expected to be 89° with an occasional thunderstorm

Reading…
97 Orchard: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement by Jane Ziegelman

Listening To…
I tried over and over to get into Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber but it just wasn’t working for me, so I switched from reading How Y’all Doing? Misadventures and Mischief from a Life Well Lived by Leslie Jordan to listening to it

Books Reviewed Last Week…
Falling by T.J. Newman – SO GOOD!

On TV…
I added the Hoopla app to my tv and I’ve been watching some very good movies. I haven’t listened to any books from the tv but I have sampled a few and think it’s very neat.

In The Kitchen This Week…
Spaghetti Pie Casserole
Chicken Burrito Skillet
Brunswick Stew

Looking forward to…
Spending Wednesday with my daughter, going to my favorite beach in St. Pete

A Favorite Bible Verse…
O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: Make known his deeds among the people.
Psalm 105:1

  1. So many storms like a monsoon! I’m glad it’s mostly over and we can get back to walking in the park. Happy reading week!

    • We’ve been having a lot of flooding in some areas near me, mostly along the Withlacoochee River. We moved a few years ago and so far haven’t had to deal with the water getting into our yard or close to our house.

  2. I need to check into adding the Hoopla app to my tv! Sorry the Heather Webber book wasn’t a win. I hope you find a better one this week!

  3. When Iread the first sentence of your review of Falling I immediately thought of the TV series Manifest.

  4. That cat pic though..lol. storms have been fun for me this week. As an uber driver i’ve been luckily enof to not leave the windows open.

    • Jaspurr is a character! She keeps me entertained 🙂 I don’t mind the storms but my dog and 2 cats are NOT fans. I always wondered if being an Uber driver would be fun. I love to drive!

  5. We are really needing rain here, it is so hot and dry. Glad you got some and hopefully it cooled you down a bit

  6. Just read your review of Falling. It was already on my list but now I want to read it NOW. The publishers that turned it down must be fools because the wait time at the Arkansas library is 686 days (!) and the wait time at the L.A. library is 99 days, so, lots of people wanting to read this book!!! I decided I’ve earned a treat so went ahead and Amazon’d myself a copy. It arrives on the 20th.

Oh, IS there a Hoopla app for TV??? I thought I had looked for it and couldn’t find one. Let me look again. That’s great because a couple of movies I’ve wanted to see were available via Hoopla and nowhere else but I had to watch them on my laptop. Maybe not!

Was the spaghetti pie casserole good? I printed that out but ate the cream cheese on triscuits before I could get around to making it. Is the texture gummy? I made something with cream cheese once and it was too gummy, but I’m wondering if I put in too much cream cheese. Sometimes I don’t notice a recipe says 3 oz or 4oz until I’ve already tossed in the entire block. lol

    Cute picture of Jaspurr!

Have fun in St. Pete with your daughter!

    • 686 days? WOW!

I have Apple TV & ROKU, Hoopla was on ROCU. I’m loving it so much!

My “In The Kitchen” recipes are for this week so I haven’t made the casserole yet. I’ll post about it next Sunday to let you know how it was.

Jaspurr is the kitty I had to bottle feed, then I couldn’t let her go to someone else.

Thanks, my daughter and I get together as often as we can to spend days together. We have lots of fun.

  7. Time with a daughter is so wonderful (I assume time with a son is just a great, I just don’t have one), so I’m glad you were able to do that. I have mine at home for 2 more weeks.

  8. Haha, I love the cat face. He looks so irritated.

    • Thanks, Jaspurr is so curious! Whenever she hears a noise she has to investigate. That’s what she’s doing in the photo, she’s saying “what the heck was that noise?”

  9. We are in our usual summer pattern of warm mornings and rainy afternoons. Let’s hope these storms stay away.

Hoopla has been a favorite with me since my library got it some time back. I haven’t watched many movies on tv, though. I need to explore that, I think.

Glad to see how much you enjoyed Falling.

    • Our rainy season will be ending at the end of September. I wish it was just in the mornings but it’s on and off all day most of the time.

  10. I love the Hoopla app! I use it for audio books mostly, but we have also enjoyed using the app on our TV and watching movies.

I’m looking forward to hearing how your recipes come out – thanks for sharing them.

    Have a good week!

  11. I couldn’t get into Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe either. 🙁 I have never thought about using Hoopla on my tv! I am going to hook it up!

    • Glad to know it wasn’t just me. I started that book over 3 times and finally just gave up. Maybe I’ll try it again later since I paid for it.

I’m loving the Hoopla movies! Hope you love it too!

  12. Thanks for dropping by.
The discovery of the children is too soon for a book. However, if you look for a book/articles on the residential schools you should find something.

  13. Love the picture of Jaspurr! I have 97 Orchard on my TBR so I hope you share your thoughts about it. I think your weather just showed up here. It’s been storming like crazy but I’m not sure if the humidity is lower. Hope you have a great week!

    • I’ll write a review of 97 Orchard as soon as I finish it, probably won’t be for 2-3 weeks unless I get glued to the pages. We have this kind of weather every year and I’m not a big fan.

  14. I love the pic of Jaspurr! What a cutie!

It’s been hot and humid here, but not as rainy as they said. it would be.

I hope you have a great week!

    • Thanks for your comment about Jaspurr! It’s been so rainy here that the Withlacoochee River is causing flooding, just like most years. Thankfully I moved farther away from the river so it doesn’t reach us anymore.

  15. My sister makes a mean spaghetti pie and I’ve asked her for the recipe several times but I always forget it when I want to make it. Was this one good? The recipes look pretty different. hers uses ricotta. My Sunday Salon post

  16. Jasper is handsome Vicki:)

I’m going to have to request Falling again, when my turn came I had too much to read and listen to – glad you liked it so much.

  17. It rained earlier and now it is much cooler. We haven’t been to the beach for a long time since the pandemic started. Like the close up shot of the cat.

    • Thankfully we have a lot of beaches here that are never crowded (usually just a few other people besides us) and those are the ones we go to most often.

  18. I’m going to need to figure out how to add the hoopla app to our TV when we get back to Florida… have been watching on my laptop until now. Not sure why I never thought of that. Thank you!!!

  19. You’re welcome! I just went to “search” and put in Hoopla and it popped up. I hope it’s that easy for you!

  20. I don’t know if Fred is a tropical storm or what but he is pounding my family in the mountains of North Carolina today. They’re all posting about flooding, power outages, and trees down. I hope you weren’t affected by any of this mess.

Have a wonderful visit with your daughter on Wednesday! The beaches on the Gulf coast really can’t be beat.

    • Yes, Fred is a Tropical Storm, and he did miss us. I hope you don’t have any damage to your house etc.

Thank you, my daughter and I have a great time together! I love all beaches but we do have many that are beautiful.
