It’s warming up, right now it’s 69° but it’s supposed to get up to 75° with a low tonight of 54°. My dog and I were woken at 5:50 this morning by really loud thunder etc, so I checked the weather app and there was a tornado warning until 7:00. Thankfully we only got rain, wind, lightening, and thunder.

  1. At the moment we are at -6 F. They call it a Polar Vortex and it’s supposed to be around all week. Good reason to hibernate and read! I love the photo. Have a great week, Vicki.

    • Now that’s cold! Hopefully you have enough food etc. to keep you inside until it warms up. If I needed anything in that kind of weather, I’d be sending my kids or grandkids to the store for me 🙂

  2. Busy week Vicki, glad you will get to spend time with grandkids too. That photo is just so beautiful, makes me want to head to Aruba again.

It’s 29 degrees here now and it has started to snow again – we had 10″ last week as well.

    • I miss living where it snows but don’t miss the cold much, although when I lived in Ohio I had jackets etc. that kept me warm. When I went back last January I had to buy a jacket when I got there 🙂

My sister still lives there and she posts snow photos for me on FB and tags me so I can see it. She lives out in the country and it’s so beautiful when it snows. Some of the photos also have deer in them.

  3. A tornado warning is scary! Glad you had the storm only and no damage.
Tacos on the menu – I love them!

We are having an adjustment with our new pup Loki. Every once in a while he growls at us when we are petting him but he has his head in our laps. He claerly wants to be with us but sometimes he growls. I hope this works out.

    • Yes, they are scary. When I lived in Ohio we had them often but not many since moving to Florida. We had one one time when I happened to be in the library, and the rain was moving sideways.

He may not of gotten much petting or love before and needs time to adjust. I feel so bad for shelter dogs. If I was rich enough I’d buy a bunch of land and rescue as many as I could.

  4. Most of the bad weather was north of us… glad you didn’t get the worst of it! I’ll be doing some meal planning later today and think I’ll add tacos to our menu. It’s been too long. Have a god week and enjoy the time with your daughter and grands!

    • Thanks, it could have been worse. I don’t know if any towns had any damage.

I’m excited to spend some time with them, I haven’t seen them since before Christmas. I wish we didn’t have to wear masks etc.

  5. We have some a cold weather system coming in for this week.. It will be in the 20s F. I see in your date for this posting you have 71 days in Feb. Is that how you get more days? 🙂

    • LOL! That sure would make for a long month wouldn’t it? I didn’t even realize I did that, and nobody else that commented did either. Thanks for letting me know! I corrected it 🙂

  6. Good news that you didn’t have a tornado come through!

Your visit with your daughter and grandkids will be something fun to look forward to!

  7. The thought of a tornado terrifies me, but I realize that other people who don’t live in California think we’re crazy for putting up with fires and earthquakes. It all depends on what you’re used to.

    • I grew up in Ohio where there were tornadoes, moved to California where there were earthquakes, now live in Florida where there are a lot of hurricanes and tornadoes once in a while, and a few years ago a “controlled fire” got out of control in a forest that backed up to our property and almost reached our house so we were evacuated. Luckily they got it out before it crossed the property line. So I guess I’m used to it all.

How is it in California now? I’m wondering if all the fires are out and if everything is calm now.

  8. Yikes! I don’t miss those tornado warnings! However, I would love to have temps in the 70s. We’ve been in the 40s for weeks, but at least the sun is shining and there’s no wind.

We had tacos last week and tonight we’re having chicken enchiladas. I really miss living near good Mexican restaurants, but I’m glad I have a couple of recipes so I can make my own.

    Have a good week, Vicki!

    • My favorite Mexican restaurant was family owned and it went out of business and I really miss it.

We don’t get tornado warnings very often, at least not compared to the hurricanes that hit Florida.

You have a good week too Les!

  9. Tornado warnings are not my favorite and I’m glad you missed it. I listened to that Tonya Kappes back a few months ago and thought it was really cute! I hope you enjoy it and I’m glad you mentioned it because I need to go back and get the 2nd book! Have a great week!

    • I’ve had the Kappes series on my list for over a year but was reluctant to start it because there are 19 books in the series, but I finally decided to go ahead and start it. I’m hoping I like them. Have a good week Katherine!

  10. What a beautiful day we had here today. We took the grandkids and they played in the backyard all afternoon. It was sunny with temps in the sixties…it doesn’t get better than this.

Game shows are always fun. I haven’t seen those in such a long time. I wonder if they have any old seasons on Amazon Prime.

Red beans and rice used to be one of my go-to meals. I need to make that again. It’s been too long.

    • I love it what the temps. are in the 60’s. That’s great flea market and bike riding weather!

I don’t know if AP has the game shows, I watch them on YouTubeTV.

I ended up making Jambalaya instead of Red beans and rice. It was very good!

  11. The photo at the end of your post is so lovely.

Your meals sound great. That taco meat recipe looks very good and easy.

When you have thunder does your dog do okay? Mine is now absolutely terrified of it and before she was just mildly bothered as long as we are home with her. Not anymore. She shakes so much she can’t even stand up. We don’t have it often which is good.

    • I love easy recipes and I love tacos so that recipe grabbed my attention right away.

My dog (and two cats) have always been frightened of thunder or any loud noises like fireworks. My cats run and hide under something and my dog wants to be held, even after the noise stops she still wants you to keep holding her for a while, I guess she wants to make sure it’s done I feel so bad for animals that get scared like that 🙁

  12. Oh I hate tornado warnings! Glad you only got rain. We have some nice weather for the next two days and then it’s supposed to be quite cold. I’ve always loved Jeopardy too! Hope you have a great week!

    • It finally warmed up here yesterday. Today’s high is supposed to be 85° with a “feels like” of 87°. My sister just let me know that she got 8″ of snow last night and are expecting 6″ more. I miss snow so much! I hope you have a great week too iliana!

  13. I’m glad the tornado didn’t cause you much trouble.
We had fries loaded with taco beef and cheese for dinner this week.

Wishing you a great reading week

  14. We woke up with snow here, it’s beginning to melt this evening but it will probably freeze tonight so I’m happy I went grocery shopping yesterdday ! I’m glad the tornado wasn’t as threatening as it sounds. Thanks for the heavenly picture, it’s a nice change from what’s outside my window. Have a nice week 🙂

    • My two sisters who live in Ohio send me pictures every time it snows. One lives in town and the other has a bunch of land out in the country so hers usually has a bunch of deer etc. in it. I really miss seeing snow.

I almost missed the section where the picture was taken because we thought it was part of the park that was closed due to Covid. I’m glad we checked to make sure.

  15. Your lion country safari photos is beautiful, and it looks warm. I could use outdoors warm right now.

  16. 26F and sleet here.

That taco recipe is interesting! I’ve seen the homemade spice mix before but never where it also called for a can of tomato sauce. Sounds like that one has the sauciness I’m looking for. Will bookmark it and print once my printer is hooked back up.
