In The Kitchen This Week…
Today I’m making a pot of Baby Lima Beans with Ham Hocks, not sure what I’ll make the rest of the week

New To Me Stuff:
I saw this new item, Starbucks Frappuccino Crafted With Cold Brew, Caramelized Honey Vanilla, yesterday and thought I’d try it, it was ok but I’ll stick with the Caramel flavor.

Today’s To Do List:
I have to wash my work clothes, and  then plan on watching tv and listening to my audiobook and just relaxing.

A Favorite Bible Verse…
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Psalm 133:1

From the camera…
Yesterday my son Anthony and I decided we needed to get out of the house and do something (first time since Feb.) so we drove to the chain of lakes we used to go to with our Pontoon boat. It was great getting out of the house and seeing the lake and walking the boardwalk through the trees and water. Lots of good memories,  we enjoyed it! Thankfully there were under 10 other people there in the whole park.

The photo is of Lake Harris
The other primary lakes are:
Apopka, Little Lake Harris, Griffin, Eustis, Dora, Beauclair, Carlton, and Yale

  1. I’m glad you were able to get out and see the water, walk the boardwalk. We also avoid areas with lots of people so it’s fortunate the park isn’t crowded.

I haven’t had a frappacino in ages, now I want one.

    • I was missing the beach and really wanted to go to one but there are too many people going and I didn’t want to be around a bunch of people who aren’t wearing masks. My second choice was a lake and it’s been a long time since we’ve been to our favorite one so that’s where we went. We’ve been going there with pontoon boats since about 1990. It was so de-stressing and I loved being out in nature again.

I love Starbucks Caramel Iced coffee! Which flavor is your favorite?

  2. I could look at that water all day. It’s relaxing. Soothing, somehow. I’m glad there were not many people, and I’m glad that you and your son were able to get out for a bit. I find I do better if I start the day by walking a couple of miles.

So would that be a frappuccino with beer? No, it’s probably just cold coffee, right? I think now and then about getting an espresso machine. Sometimes those make frappuccinos, too, I think. But I would really love to go back to Starbucks and my favorite little coffee place here in town. Someday.

Baby lima beans with ham hocks? My happy place. I’ve never made that myself, but my grandma used to make that.

I hope you have a good week.

    • No, there’s no beer 🙂

I’ve lived at a lake and the beach and would love to live at the beach again! It’s my Happy Place. I just love being at the water any chance I get.

My favorite pot of beans is fresh Black Eyed but my son likes Baby Lima so that’s what I’m making today.

Thanks, I hope you have a great week too!

  3. Love the cover of Finding Layla, hope the story is as good.

Thanks for sharing your river journey, it looks idyllic.

Wishing you a great reading week

  4. I added both those books to my TBR list!

So glad you finally got out. We’ve been venturing out but staying away from crowds. Masks are mandatory here.

    • I hope you like the books!

It was great getting out! I’m so glad that there were so few people there, I’d have just sat in the car and looked at the water if there had been too many. Masks are mandatory here too.

I hope you have a great week!

  5. Beautiful lake, Vicki. The water is so peaceful and offers a great place to hang out.

    • It was a very calm day. But we’ve been on that lake and some of the others in the chain that haven’t had such peaceful water. A few times we were rocking back and forth and/or the wind shoved us all the way against the shore.

  6. What a peaceful photo. Good idea to go! I read the book Wish You Well and remember liking it. Not sure if I saw the film. Have a good week, Vicki!

    • I was so glad we decided to go! It got us out of the house for a few hours and I loved every second of it!

I haven’t read the book or any books by that author but I may find a copy because I always thing the book is better.

I hope you have a good week too!

  7. I recently read The Friendship List and enjoyed it.

I’m so glad you had a chance to get out. I have to do that soon. I need a change of scenery.

    Beautiful photo!

    Have a great week!

  8. Going on a field trip to the lakes sounds like a wonderful idea. Water is so calming and we all need that right now!

  9. How great that you got out of the house!

  10. Glad you were able to go out safely, stroll down memory lane, and enjoy a beautiful spot !

  11. Vicki how nice that you were able to go out to the lake. Looks so wonderful. I think we may have to go for a drive around town just to get out of the house. Hope you are having a great start of the week!

  12. Lake Harris is so lovely! I’m glad you and your son spent time there. Have a great week ahead, Vicki!

  13. I love how you read and listen to so many books. I also like the concept of “chain of lakes.” I grew up with lima beans but haven’t really had any since I left home way back when.

    • I don’t make beans often but when I do it’s usually baby lima’s which are my son’s favorite or fresh/frozen black eyed peas which are my favorite.

I’m way behind on books this year. I got addicted to word games on my phone 🙂

  14. I have a lake near me but I hardly go there. Strangely enough… it’s a beautiful locale in a really crappy neighborhood. A lot of drug activity so I steer clear most of the time. I want my city to take it over. Right now it’s owned by the County of LA.

Work clothes. None of mine fit. I am really trying hard now to lose the pandemic weight I’ve gained so that when it is time for me to go back I can buy some new clothes and not show up for work in my jammies.

    • We’ve been going to that chain of lakes since ’89 and I’ve never seen anyone doing anything that worried me thank goodness. There was a man who drowned near the boat ramps years ago. We were there when someone found him but it had happened way before we got there. I think he was alone because nobody acted like they were with him.

I’ve gained a little weight in the months since we were told to stay home. I don’t like it at all. My scrub tops are getting tight but my bottoms are ok so far.
