While enjoying a romantic candlelit dinner with her fiance, Ryan, at one of Seattle’s chicest restaurants, Kailey Crane can’t believe her good fortune: She has a great job as a writer for the Herald and is now engaged to a guy who is perfect in nearly every way. As they leave the restaurant, Kailey spies a thin, bearded homeless man on the sidewalk. She approaches him to offer up her bag of leftovers, and is stunned when their eyes meet, then stricken to her very core: The man is the love of her life, Cade McAllister.

When Kailey met Cade ten years ago, their attraction was immediate and intense everything connected and felt “right.” But it all ended suddenly, leaving Kailey devastated. Now the poor soul on the street is a faded version of her former beloved: His weathered and weary face is as handsome as Kailey remembers, but his mind has suffered in the intervening years. Over the next few weeks, Kailey helps Cade begin to piece his life together, something she initially keeps from Ryan. As she revisits her long-ago relationship, Kailey realizes that she must decide exactly what and whom she wants.

Alternating between the past and the present, Always is a beautifully unfolding exploration of a woman faced with an impossible choice, a woman who discovers what she’s willing to save and what she will sacrifice for true love.

This book was wonderful! The story started with a twist and kept the excitement going until the end. I liked all the characters. One of them started out on my “dont like” list but by the end of the book he was taken off and joined the others. I had his character all wrong.

The story seemed so real and I loved seeing what was going to happen between the characters next. I loved the ending, it was what I was hoping for.

The narration was great, Brittany’s voice made it an easy listen.

A small amount of the reviews for this book were negative, but l am among those who loved it and it will probably be going on my top 10 books of 2019 list.

Always by Sarah Jio”

  1. I love a book with twists. Can’t imagine such a scenario happening to me but what a plot! I may get this one in book form. Still can’t get into the audible books and I really wanted to.

    • It’s not really full of twists but there are a few. A really good book.

If you have book apps on your iPhone like Hoopla, Cloud Library, or Overdrive, you may be able to find the audio on one of them. Or maybe the CD at the library.

  2. I think Jio is one of the best at weaving storylines from the past and the present. This sounds really good.

  3. I’m glad you enjoyed this one so much. I’ve only read one book by Sarah Jio (The Violets of March) and have always meant to try another. I’ll add this to my list!

  4. Vicki, this does sound like a great story. I’m glad you enjoyed listening to it. I’ll keep it in mind for future listening.

  5. It was good Susan. I’m so glad I ran across it.

  6. This sounds so good! I’ve been wanting to read this author. I will have to add it to my list.

  7. I’m reading a Sarah Jio book right now (The Last Camellia) and am really loving it! This one sounds really good too!
