Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda

Morning 9:00 a.m.
I glance at my wife as she climbs into the passenger seat, sunlight bouncing off her shiny blond hair like sparklers lit for the Fourth of July, and I am bursting with confidence. Everything is as it should be.

Here we are, just the two of us, about to spend the weekend at our lake house. Today represents everything I’ve worked for, that we have built together. The sun blasts through my driver’s side window with such intensity I feel the urge to hold my hand up to the side of my face to shield my eyes, even though my sunglasses are dark and should be doing the job. Under any other circumstances, on any other day, they would be, I know. But today, something is different between us; some strange tension pulses through the still air of the car’s interior. I cannot see it, but it’s here. I’d like to name it. Discover it’s source and eliminate it.

Based on this intro, would you read more or pass on this book?

  1. I loved this book! I hope you do, too. Thanks for hosting…and for sharing.

  2. Huh. Interesting. I want to know more now. I guess that’s the point, huh?
The book cover looks so cool (:

  3. I’ve not heard of this book but that opener definitely has drawn me in!

  4. First, that cover is stunning. I’d grab it for that reason alone. The first paragraph drew me in, but I’m not sure if it could keep me going. I’d give it a few pages.

  5. Mmm – the pessimist in me says this is not going to be such a happy day! the strange tension in the air bothers me.

  6. This has my interest. I’ll have to check this book out.

  7. Hummm, I think I’d have to read a bit more to be sure.

  8. I’ve got this one on my list and maybe even on my Kindle. Can’t remember. Have heard goo things. And, no, I don’t think the day will be a ‘best’ one. Enjoy!

  9. Great opening paragraph that captures the uncertain feeling one has when their gut tells them something isn’t right–but they’re not sure.

  10. This intro makes me want to try the book; hope the rest is as good.

  11. Good opening. I’d keep reading to find out what mars this perfect day. Something has to or there wouldn’t be a plot!
I’ve been away from FCFPTI for a while. It’s fun to be back!

    • I’m only at the point in the book where it’s hinting that something big is coming, but the hints are drawing me more and more into the book.

  12. This one is on my TBR. That’s a great beginning! It definitely makes me want to keep reading.

  13. It’s gonna be rather bad day….

  14. Vicki, this is a good intro to the book. I’d definitely read more. I’ve read some glowing reviews and hope you’ll enjoy it!

  15. I’ve seen this book around and it looks very good. How is it on audio?

  16. I’m guessing it’s not going to be such a great day. Seems interesting.

  17. Yes, it does grab you right away. I will have to know more and will look it up at the library.
BTW my book list seems to be expanding every time I visit.:)

    • You should start writing reviews so your followers can see what you think about the books you read. And maybe I will add some of your books to my list.
