From this Side of the Pond

1. The Hodgepodge lands on June 14th this week, Flag Day in the US of A. Do you fly your country’s flag at home? Sometimes, often, or every single day? Have you ever visited the city of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia)? Did you make a point of seeing The Betsy Ross House? Have you ever made a trip to Baltimore? If so, was Fort McHenry on your itinerary? (where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write The Star Spangled Banner)
We don’t fly a flag where we live now, but the house we’re moving to has a flag pole and we plan on flying one there. I’ve visited Philadelphia but didn’t see Betsy Ross House, haven’t been to Baltimore.

2. Red flag or white flag? Which have you encountered most recently? Explain.
A bit of both. Our house remodel is taking so much longer than expected, but I’m not giving up.

3. Are you a stay in the car listen to the end of a song kind of person? What kind of person is that?
I’m usually listening to an audiobook, not songs. I’ve been known to finish a paragraph or two before turning the car off. Not sure there is any one definition of what kind of person stays in the car to listen to the end of a song. People are too diverse and there are many reasons a person would do it.

4. What are some of the traits or qualities you think a good dad possesses? In other words, what makes a good dad? What’s an expression you associate with your father?
A good dad listens to his children and spends quality time with them and teaches them through his own actions, and always makes them feel loved. My dad was always singing “You’ll never know dear, how much I love you”.

5. What’s one rule you always disagreed with while growing up? Is that rule somehow still part of your adult life? Is that a good or bad thing?
I don’t remember a rule that I disagreed with. My childhood was pretty amazing. And I’m a “go with the flow” type of person.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
I’m a movie addict, so I find it strange that I’ve never seen so many of the greats, like The Godfather 1 or 2, Citizen Kane, Mary Poppins. I did dvr both Godfathers last week so I plan on watching them soon.

  1. Enjoy The Godfather! I haven’t seen the second one, but I really like the first one…

  2. Mary Poppins is SO good, you might want to try that one!
Like your qualities of a good dad ❤️

  3. Our flag is flying today (and any other national holiday).

  4. I like the song your dad sang to you. Enjoying the results of your remodel will make it worthwhile. Mary Poppins is good. I saw the two Godfather movies, but wouldn’t watch them again. So sad to see people thinking they have to kill to have control. I don’t remember Citizen Kane, but know I watched it years ago.

    • I usually don’t watch movies/tv shows with killings/violence, but I thought since everyone seems to love them, I’d give it a try. Doesn’t mean I’ll finish them though 🙂

  5. The Godfather is excellent and contains so many memorable lines!!

  6. I’ve not seen the Godfather movies, either, but I don’t have any desire to. My husband watches the other mafia movie (Goodfellas) every single time it’s on. That is more than enough for me.

  7. We don’t fly a flag but some children in our neighborhood made us a primitive flag hanging that I put on our front door May through July. I’ve been to Philly and Baltimore and have seen the Betsy Ross house but not Fort McHenry. I was lucky to be blessed with a wonderful dad too.

  8. There are so many classic movies that I haven’t seen either. My Grandfather is housebound for the first time in his life (he’s 93) and I’ve been trying to visit once a month (they’re about 350 miles away) and one of the absolutely amazing things about visiting is we’ve been able to watch a lot of the classic movies together. It’s been so wonderful and it’s given us whole new things to talk about. He called yesterday to let me know a Lucy/Desi Arnaz movie was coming on that evening and he wanted to be sure I didn’t miss it.

    • You’re very Blessed to have a great relationship with your grandfather. Three of my grandparents died either before I was born or when I was only a few years old so I don’t remember them. My dad’s dad I do remember, but he died when I was young too.

  9. Fun Hodgepodge! I saw the Godfather movies many years ago. They are intense!

  10. I love watching movies too! I can watch the same movie time and time again. I love World War II movies and police dramas. My beloved SWMBO doesn’t understand how I can do that and always gives me a spoiler alert…WE WON! I have even watched what could be considered to be a “Chick Flick” or two. One of my favotites is Steve Carrell’s “Dan in Real Life.”
Thank you for your visit to my blog page and for leaving a comment. Have a great weekend.
