Ok, so I finally made the Crack Chicken recipe I found here. I was so looking forward to tasting it since everywhere I turned I was seeing people rave about it. I’ll not be giving it any raves. For me, the taste of the cream cheese was so very overpowering. If I ever decide to give it another try, I’ll only use one cream cheese.

I fixed two sandwiches because I was starving, but I could barely finish the first one. It was one of those times that the more I ate the bigger it got. The second sandwich went into the garbage disposal.

I was so disappointed. I thought it was going to be amazing. It wasn’t. Still, without the second cream cheese it might be. I haven’t decided if I want to give it another try or not. If I do, I’ll let you know my thoughts.

  1. Bummer! I wonder if it would have been better as a dip for tortilla chips.

  2. I think trying it again and reducing the cheese would be good. I alway have to tweak a recipe. Sorry that was disappointing.

  3. Two cream cheeses does sound a bit too rich and overpowering. Sorry this didn’t work out this time.

  4. I’ve made this and definitely agree about the over-abundance of cream cheese. To be honest I really didn’t like the flavor combination at all in the sandwich. That being said I do make crack dip and it’s absolutely amazing. I really recommend going that route and skipping the whole sandwich thing all together. I hate when something I’m really looking forward to is so disappointing. Maybe a simple barbecue chicken sandwich with the dips and chips might make it better?

  5. Oh I like Beth Fish Reads’ idea of making it a dip, that might work. We’ve all had recipes that didn’t work out, that is what take-out is for, right?

  6. I guess everyone’s palates are different. We like it hot and spicy but others can’t cope with that. Have a great week. Cheers from Carole’s Chatter

  7. Sometimes I feel as if one should stick to recipes from websites that have reliable test kitchens, like Epicurious. This seems to be one of those times. The effort to be different is sometimes too much!

  9. I’ve never heard of Crack Chicken. Sorry it was a disappointment.

  10. I pinned that recipe, too, so am very happy to have your feedback. Sorry it was disappointment.

  11. It sounds wonderful to me. I love cream cheese. I may have to try this one!
