Readers Workout

I did some form of cardio and/or strength training every day except two
Deep breathing every day
Prayer/Meditation every day

I hurt my leg out in the yard so was unable to do much for the next two days. I’m still a little sore, but did some walking today.

I also used heavier weights for my strength training and my arms ached for a few days. It’s a good ache though!

Did better as far as drinking water, but still not up to the full 84 oz.
(someone commented that 84 oz. sounded like a lot of water. I read somewhere that you should drink 1/2 your body weight in oz. and since I weigh 160 lbs., that makes it 80 oz. My water bottle is 28 oz. so I can fill it up 3x’s and be at 84 oz. That’s how I came up with that amount. I used to not have a problem drinking it all. The only thing I can think of as to why I’m not drinking enough is that we’re having less scorching hot/humid days.

I’m thrilled to report that I ate way less meat than I have in a long time. I only ate meat once, and that was a few slices of ham. I still need to work on the carbs some. Another thing I decided to work on was giving up pop. And I have, yea!!

Background story ~ I used to never drink anything but pop, we’re talking years here. Then on one of my previous “I’m going to get fitter” debacles, I stopped and only drank water. I started slowly adding pop back in until I was drinking it and water 50/50. Finally, I really wanted to stop my bad habits so I decided to just go cold turkey. And guess what? I did it, and didn’t even crave it anymore. It’s just mind over matter! That’s also how I stopped a 2 1/2 pack a day cigarette habit years ago. So any of you out there that think you can’t stop drinking pop, eating crap, or smoking cigarettes, YES YOU CAN! When you’re 1oo% ready to stop, you’ll be able to stop. I would have rather had a cig than eat. It was baaaaad! Believe me. Mind over matter people!!

I’m sure that I’ll still have a Code Red from time to time. But it will never be an everyday thing again. EVER!

Another thing I wanted to post about is that I follow Sheila’s  (Book Journey) fitness blog, Team Kickin’ It.  She posted toward the end of 2012 that she had a challenge coming up and that she’d post about it when she’d figured it all out. I was so excited…I love fitness challenges. I’ve been checking her blog almost daily to see if there was any news. And then yesterday there it was in all it’s glory, The 12 K Fitness Challenge 2013!! This is a fitness challenge that is do-able for any age, weight or fitness level. Please go check it out and see if it’s something that you’d like to join. It’s going to be fun, and will get us in better shape too!

  1. Hm, by that formula I don’t drink enough water either. I drink about 3 bottles a day.

  2. Sounds like a good week for you! I try to get 64 ounces of water a day, and I consider anything above that a bonus. My day is usually that I’ll drink one glass in the morning, then have a cup of coffee (or two), then go back to water. In the evening, I usually switch to herbal tea, and I typically count that in my water intake cuz it’s basically just flavored water anyway.

    I used to drink a lot of soda too, but I’ve found that I don’t like sweet things as much as I get older. There was a time in my early 20s that I was drinking something like a 6 pack of mountain dew a day, which is just ridiculous. I can’t stomach that stuff at all now!

    I’m going to join Sheila’s challenge as well, it sounds like a lot of fun and good motivation!

  4. I would do a little more research on the amount of water to make sure you aren’t trying to drink too much. I read you can actually drink too much water and harm yourself.

    And good for you for making progress!!

    • I’ve done a lot of research on how much water to drink, and everyone has their own idea. But…I think the half of your weight in oz. is the best for me. It’s only 10.5 cups which makes it only 2.5 cups more than the standard 8 cups.

  5. Sounds like a great week! Glad you’re healing from the leg injury.

    I’ve been doing a plan that calls for 3 liters, about 100 oz, of water. It took a few days, but I’m there. I used to drink a lot of soda and found it hard to quit because it was the first thing I drank in the morning. But I managed it, cold-turkey, while on vacation.

    I joined the 12K fitness challenge, too — should be fun!

  6. I have been really slacking on my water intake lately. I need to work on that. But I rarely drink soda, so at least that’s good. I hope your leg continues to heal!

  8. I tend to drink lots of tea and not enough (any) water at all. Naughty, naughty. I should I know but it is a chore as my body just doesn’t think it wants it. It does not quench my thirst (when I am thirsty which is rare).

    However, I do know when I haven’t been drinking enough when out on long run – when muddy puddles start to look refreshing.

    So good for you guys who have made that positive change to drinking more water. Whilst I’m not going to prescribe to what the scientists say exactly when it comes to how much water you should drink – preferring to trust my own body – I know I need to drink a bit more.
