Mailbox Monday is a gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week and explore great book blogs. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

April Host: Cindy’s Love Of Books

Tour:
The Mother Road by Jennifer Allee, for a book tour on May 10th.

Well, we’re back to another slow week. This was the only book I received in my mailbox this past week.

Bought:
Cum Laude by Cecily von Ziegesar
Dune Road by Jane Green
The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold
Sleepwalking in Daylight by Elizabeth Flock
Slam by Nick Hornby
The Christmas Cookie Club by Ann Pearlman
Body Surfing by Anita Shreve
The EX Mrs. Hedgefund by Jill Kargman
Wishin’ and Hopin’ by Wally Lamb
Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman

Like I said in my Sunday Salon post yesterday, I found these Friday in a store I’d never been in before. But I’ll definitely be going back! They all sound good to me, but as I was getting the links for them, I saw some have low (3+) ratings. Now I’m more eager to read them and see what I think of them.

WBN:
The Stand by Stephen King

I picked up the books I’m giving away tonight for World Book Night. All the books for tonight’s event have been published specifically for WBN. I can’t wait to share my love of reading with those who aren’t regular readers!!

————————————————–

This is a weekly event where MizB will ask a book/reading-related question, and you answer with your own thoughts on the topic.

Other than working at a job, what is your biggest interruption to reading? What takes you away from your book(s)?

For me it’s   A L W A Y S  been family life. Cleaning, cooking, kids, grandkids. But…the week before last I went to Pinterest to see what all the fuss was about and it just sucked me in. I’m doing better, but sometimes when you get on there one thing leads to another, to another… Then there’s email, Facebook, and so many other sites that I can’t not go to. I need to know what’s going on. And at night, it’s tv. Besides being a bookaholic, I’m also a tv/movieaholic. And I can’t forget my dog. Every time I pick up a book, she nuzzles her way between me and the book. I have to spend a little time loving on her before she’ll lay down beside me and let me read. Gotta love her!!

  1. Hi Vicki,

You still managed to amass a great haul of books this week and there are some fantastic titles amongst them.

The one that really caught my eye was ‘The Almost Moon’ by Alice Sebold. I read ‘The Lucky Bones’ some years ago and was completely enthralled by it. It is the one book that I have recommended again and again, and everyone has loved.

‘The Almost Moon’ is definitely on my list, but you are sure to get to it first, so I shall be looking out for your review.

    Yvonne

  2. It is family life for me also! :)

  3. TV can be a distraction for me too!

Of your new books, I’ve only read Body Surfing – which I liked, hope you do too.

  4. Happily, I can’t seem to figure Pinterest out…I don’t need to waste any more time on the computer when I could be reading!

  5. Book ratings are a very personal thing and at times say more about a readers expectation at the outset rather than the quality of the title. A few of those titles you purchased look excellent to me – enjoy!

  6. I’m intrigued by Almost Moon. I really enjoyed The Lovely Bones but haven’t heard much about this one – hope you enjoy it :-)

  7. Real life is my 1st answer too.
Nice mailbox. I see some books there that look very interesting and will be waiting for your reviews to see if I should put them on my “hopefully in my lifetime tbr list” lol
    Have a great week.

  8. Nice heavy mailbox

  9. WOW look at all those great books – enjoy. We are getting soaking rain (desperately needed). Make a snowman and post the picture :)

  10. That dog of yours sounds like a total cutie! I want him. I find TV a big one too- so addictive!

  14. Hope you enjoy Saving CeeCee Honeycutt…I loved it!

I have been “wishin’ and hopin'” to read that Wally Lamb book someday….enjoy your reads! And thanks for visiting my blog.

  15. You had a fun shopping spree! You’re in for a real treat with Saving CeeCee Honeycutt!

  16. Congrats on finding all those books – I really do hope you enjoy them :-) And same for me with the interruptions for reading – family life always & household chores (although audibooks are helping with that). I now DVR everything on tv I want to watch during the week, and save it for the weekend, usually Sunday night which is my tv night.

  17. Have fun with WBN.. I never caught on to all that yet. Hope your books are more than 3 star reads for you.
My mailbox post.. Please come visit =)

  18. I use to be a TVaholic, but since I got DVR I watch when I’m in the mood. However, a lot of things do interrupt my reading anyway.

  19. I have the Alice Sebold and I think the Anita Shreve in my TBR pile.

  20. I love discovering new book stores (new and old). You found some amazing book. Enjoy and have fun with WBN

  21. Hope you enjoy your new books!

  22. I’ve read great reviews about Saving CeeCee. I totally understand about reading interruptions. I love reading in bed the most.

  23. Oh, Pintrest is really addicting! I’ve read a few of your new books–and really enjoyed them! Hope you do, too.

  24. I liked your musing. I did not put surfing the web on mine but that does take some of my reading time. Here is my musing: MM

  25. I know what you mean about having to spend time with your dog! They’re so loyal, and I feel like I owe it to them to drop everything I’m doing to play with them a little. Plus they’re so adorable ;). Great post, would love it if you could check mine out! :)

  26. Saving CeeCee is one of my favorite books of all time!!!! Great reads..enjoy!

  27. I’m new to Pinterest too…it’s addictive, isn’t it? I could “pin” all day. :-)

    Enjoy your books!
