When her four year old daughter informs her a sick man is in their yard, Honor Gillette rushes out to help him. But that “sick” man turns out to be Lee Coburn, the man accused of murdering seven people the night before. Dangerous, desperate, and armed, he promises Honor that she and her daughter won’t be hurt as long as she does everything he asks. She has no choice but to accept him at his word.

But Honor soon discovers that even those close to her can’t be trusted. Coburn claims that her beloved late husband possessed something extremely valuable that places Honor and her daughter in grave danger. Coburn is there to retrieve it — at any cost. From FBI offices in Washington, D.C., to a rundown shrimp boat in coastal Louisiana, Coburn and Honor run for their lives from the very people sworn to protect them, and unravel a web of corruption and depravity that threatens not only them, but the fabric of our society.

I’ve been wanting to read a book, any book, by Sandra Brown for a long time. When I first say this book, the cover grabbed my attention and then the blurb held it. I knew I HAD to read it. And I LOVED it!
Now anyone who reads my blog regularly knows that I don’t like books that are much more than 300 pages. Under 300 is more to my liking. But once in a while I get out of my comfort zone, and this was one of those times. As you can see above, the book is almost 500 pages. But I can honestly say that the book was so engrossing that it seemed much shorter. My son always tells me and his dad, “bye, I love you” before he leaves in the morning. Well, I went to bed to read on night and at 6:00 am he came to tell us and I was still reading. Yep, it’s that good.
There are so  many twists, shockers, and puzzles that you lose all sense of time. You are drawn into a world where you don’t know who the bad guy(s) is and who is at the root of all the bad deeds.
Sandra Brown writes my kind of book. I can’t wait to read the next one.

  1. Holy cow, you stayed up all night reading that book? It must be amazing!

  2. I thought the same thing. I hadn't read one of her books in a long time and after reading this one, realized that I had been missing out on some good reads. I also agree with you, as big as the book was, it didn't seem it because you just keep turning those pages!!!!!
